This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Waterloo Hilaire Belloc Books

Hilaire Belloc, a resident of West Sussex in England, a writer of astonishing variety and at times peerless prose, was himself trained in the French Military. Having lost his beloved wife just prior to the First World War, and then two sons and many dear friends in World Wars I & II, he was personally touched by the human cost of war.
His comprehension of the political and moral imperatives of warfare, his study of personal general-ship and his detailing of tactical manoeuvres and man-to-man combat, as set forth in his military histories of the great battles of Europe, and as exemplified in WATERLOO, offer the reader a vivid, balanced and sobering assessment of the subject

Waterloo Hilaire Belloc Books Reviews

A view of Waterloo that takes the common sense approach of not only showing the fight itself but the social, political and tactical factors, beginning before the emperors first exile, that effected the battle and indeed because of these factors Waterloo could scarcely ended any other way.
This is a very old book. There are better accounts available.
Always good to read a neutral book describing the battle of Waterloo. The author has an un biased view of the proceedings.
The maps are missing in the edition. Please correct my copy as the account of the Battle is 50% deminished without the maps.
The maps that are referenced throughout are missing. Useless, but it was free..
As covered in the Blenheim review - without the maps/diagrams the prose loses relevance and impact. Better by far to pay a few dollars and get a complete account which can be followed
The ability to understand what the author was conveying to me was great. No big antiquated phrases or words just a narrative that was easy to take in. His descriptions of the armies movements and objectives is very clear. Lastly, the author didn't bog himself down with the inner workings of the participants. He kept the whole battle clear and to the point.
